Identifying Features:

  • Kivu has an ear notch and missing horns

  • Manze has short horns

  • Pony is missing her right horn

  • Nugget is missing 1/2 of right horn and 1/4 of left horn. 

  • Pepper's full horns are widely set

  • Peach - missing 1/4 of right horn

  • Gazelles are a genus of antelope

  • Inhabit short grasslands and savannas of Kenya and Tanzania

  • Migrate following rains

  • Lifespan: 10-15 years in the wild

  • Grazers, will incorporate forbs and fruit into diet during dry season

  • Ungulates - hoofed mammal

  • Both males and females usually have horns

  • Black stripe accentuates size, white underbelly assists in thermoregulation

  • Great endurance runner; runs up to 40 mpg

  • Grazer

  • Main prey of cheetahs

  • Cheetahs are faster, but Tommies can run longer and change directions quickly to evade the cheetas.
