History:

  • Kashyyyk was scheduled to depart to another zoo, but it was postponed. Unsure of current plans for him.

More Information:

  • Thought to be the most powerful vulture in Africa

  • IUCN: Endangered

  • 37-45 in. tall

  • 8.2-9.5 ft wingspan

  • 9.7-20.7 lbs.

  • Can eat up to 51 oz of food in one meal

  • Largely a scavenging bird, they also hunt small mammals, reptiels, fish, and even birds - including baby flamingos.

  • Strong, sharp beak which allows it to more easily break into the tough skin of dead animals.

  • Often dominant over other vulture species at a large carcass.
