Identifying Features:

History:

  • Feisty arrived at the Phx Zoo from the San Diego zoo in Dec, 2025.

  • 8 years old at time of arrival

More Information:

  • World's smallest crocodile (up to 5.9 ft)

  • Weight 40-70 pounds

  • Solitary and nocturnal

  • Found alone or in pairs in burrows and hollows of low lying tree branches at the waters edge.

  • Heavily armoured, dark in color on the back and sides with yellowish belly

  • Found in western central Africa

  • Diet varies with time of year; fish during the wet season and crustaceans and amphibians during dry seasons.

  • Fun Fact:  They are well adapted for life in the water; they have clear, protective third eyelids that allow them to see underwater, along with sealable ear holes and closeable nostrils.
