Pelicans

  • White Pelicans - 2 male

  • Dalmation Pelicans - 5 male, 5 female - one of the females is names 'Anastasia'

  • We have 2 new Dalmation Pelican chicks (both male) hatched 2/16/24 & 2/18/24 to parents Anastasia & Seven.


Identifying Features:

In general, males legs are banded on the right, females banded on the left.

History:

  • Gular pouch can expand and contract

  • Travel in flocks

  • Air pockets in skeleton and under skin makes them incredibly buoyant

  • Bills, pouches, and facial skil becomes brighter before breeding season

  • Use oils from preening gland to waterproof feathers
