Identifying Features:

Enik is black in color with cream or 'buff' cheeks. 

China is cream colored.

History:

  • Enik and China are siblings. They were born at the LA Zoo and their mother still lives there.

  • Very vocal in the mornings - scroll down to hear their song!

More Information:

  • IUCN: Endangered

  • Live in SE Asia

  • Bipedal - will walk upright on 2 feet on the ground

  • Brachiation - swing through the trees to travel from place to place

  • Sexually dimorphic - males are black, females buff colored

  • Can leap 40 ft while 200ft in the air

  • Live in flexible social groups: generally, and adult pair with their offspring

  • Can live up to 50 years in managed care

  • Information about them in the wild is limited because they move around so much
