  • Other names: Walking shark, Itar shark

  • Diet: worms, crabs, shrimp, amphipods, polychaete worms, and small fish

  • Size: up to 3.5 ft in length

  • Lifespan: 20-25 years

  • Found in tropical waters around New Guinea and northern and eastern coasts of Australia

  • Nocturnal species

  • Strong pectoral and pelvic fins to help "walk" along coral reef systeems or ocean floor in search of prey

  • Live in shallow waters so they have evolved to survive up to an hour with little or no oxygen
