Identifying Features:

  • Felicity is smaller with a more pinpointed mark on her forehead. She is young and more energetic

  • Febe is a littler larger and has bigger gold mustache coloration. She is more calm.

History:

  • Febe arrived to Phoenix Zoo in Jan 2020 from Glady’s Porter Zoo in Brownsville, TX. 

  • Felicity was born at Phx Zoo to parents Febe & Felix

  • Felicity's father was Felix, who came from Potawatomi Zoo in 2018. He passed away before Felicity was born.

More Information:

  • AKA Pale-headed saki monkey

  • Named for the male's appearance - black except for head

  • Inhabit forests and swamps

  • Tail is roughly same length as body, but often longer

  • Eat mainly fruit and have robust incisors and canines to break through the tough skins and shells

  • Also eat seeds, nuts, leaves and insects, especially ants. 

  • Important seed disperser for many plants

  • Sometimes eat soil and minerals, most likely to supplement their diet or neutralize acidic fruit diet

  • IUCN: least concern, major threats include habitat loss and pet trade
