  • Carl - R. metal DZG7-609 

  • Carol - L. metal WPZ 114, L. blue (plastic)

History:

  • Chicks successfully hatched on exhibit for the first time -Ceri (F) 5/8/2023, Carlton (F) 5/9/2023 Ceri was transferred to Discover Cove (Sea World Orlando) in Dec 2023. Carlton went to the Tracy Aviary. Another chick was transferred to the Charles Paddock Zoo.

More Information:

  • One of the smallest member of the toucan family

  • 12-16 in long and weighing 3.9-5.7 ounces

  • Serrated edges of large bill help to grip and gather food

  • Insects an occasionaly part of diet, providing protein

  • Sexual dimorphism - males have black heads, females have brown heads

  • Builds nests in abandoned woodpecker holes

  • IUCN: least concernt
