  • IUCN: Least Concern

  • US Fish & Wildlife: Endangered

  • Found from US & Mexico through Central & South America

  • Recorded in Arizona & Texas

  • Habitat: Forest, Savanna and Shrubland

  • Adults weigh 18 to 35 lbs.

  • Ocelots have two black stripes on their cheeks

  • Diet: 65 - 66% small rodents; 12 - 18% reptiles; 4 - 11% birds, 2 - 3% crustaceans & fish

  • Primary prey consists of nocturnal species


Phoenix Zoo Conservation:

  • The Phoenix Zoo's Atascosa Complex Wildlife Study recorded a video of a new ocelot in southern Arizona in June of 2024

  • A multi-agency review team concluded that this is a new cat not previously seen in the state. In addition, it is the first confirmed ocelot sighting in the Atascosa Highlands region in at least 50 years.
