History:
Robert was rescued as a young cub from a trap on / near Bliss AFB in New Mexico, transferred from Alameda Park Zoo in April, 2016. He was very young at the time. He is not able to be released back into the wild.
More Information:
Roberto is generally very shy and likes to hide in the crevices in his exhibit.
He will spend more time in the crevices in the summer time because the cool air from his night house swamp cooler blows on him through vents in the exhibit walls.
He can be nervous around keepers, and has had very little human contact in the past. Fast movements and loud noises should be avoided around this animal.
Solitary
Mark their territory with urine
Stalk and ambush predators
Young are called bobkittens
Opportunistic - wide variety of prey items
Capable of taking down prey much larger than themselves
Will often have more than one den in their territory
Spots on the back of ears may serve to help mom & bobkittens find each other when they are traveling together.
