History:

More Information:

  • Male & female are same color, but males are larger with longer bills

  • Range: Florida, Gulf of Texas, Central and South America

  • Marshlike areas, especially mangrove swamps and mud flats

  • Diet: crustaceans, insects, mollusks, amphibians, aquatic plants, fish, and seeds

  • Breeding season based on rainfall patterns
