History:
We received two eggs from the Aquarium of the Pacific. These eggs successfully hatched were hand-raised behind the scenes by our bird keepers. They are now on exhibit.
More Information:
Found throughout Mexico and western United States
Habitats included beaches, flats, shallow lakes, pairie ponds
Diet consists of tiny creatures that live in or near shallow water, including midge larvae and other aquatic insects, small crustaceans.
Typically nests in loose colonies, sometimes mixed with Black-necked Stilts
IUCN: Least Concern
