Identifying Features:

  • Elvis is tagged on his left leg. 

  • Pricilla is tagged on her right leg.

History:

  •  3/2000 a male chick was born and successfully raised. 

  • Parker is known to be very aggressivetowards keepers during breeding season. 

  • He also is known to have very poor molts. Parents to AAR owl, Tecal. 

  • Audra has been dam to several surviving offspring. 

  • She tends to be more flighty and she can be aggressive during breeding season. 

  • She molts very poorly to the point of having difficulty flying.

More Information:

  • Found in tropical Central and South America

  • Eat bats, small birds, insects, small mammals

  • Known as barking or knocking owl (Mike thinks is sounds like a car with a bad starter)

  • Toes - two in front, two in back; can rotate to have 3 in front

  • 3rd eyelid - called a nictitating membrane, a thin layer of tissue that closes diagonally across the eye from inside to outside; cleans and protects the surface of the eye
