Identifying Features:

History:

  • Poppy (F) dob 4/27/2010, moved to the Phoenix Zoo in 2012 from the Santa Ana Zoo. Poppy passed away Jan 2024. 

  • Maximo arrived in Phoenix from the Caldwell Zoo (Tyler, Texas) in late 2019.

  • Poppy was the queen of that exhibit.

  • When she moved in she took charge!!

  • Poppy was great at catching sparrows, liked to eat the head and leave the rest.

  • Maximo was moved to the Forest of Uco trail with the white-faced saki monkeys for companionship after Poppy's passing. 

  • As of 02/18/26, Maximo was moved back to the Tamarin Complex on the Children's Trail, where he will be with Mari, the cotton-topped tamarin.

•Generally give birth to twins (triplets and singletons do occur)

•Young carried on back of parents

•Large social groups often with both tamarins and marmosets

•Males and females help to raise off spring

•Sharp claws - used to dig into tree bark

•Diurnal
